Central Bohemia Region, CZ
Demographic changes are a reality in the Central Bohemia Region. Although at the present time the number of its inhabitants is still rising there is evidence of ageing and declining population all around the region and in peripheral and rural areas in particular. We can safely say that the number of people over 65 is increasing. The positive development in the size of the Bohemian population is not due to increasing birth rates but thanks to migration from the capital Prague. Nevertheless CBR is affected by demographic changes and needs to deal with them now, and will need to even more in the future.
In the context of demographic changes and due to vastness of our region we can, for instance, identify the following problems: lack of network and accessibility to social and health services; insufficient support of subsidiarity and intergenerational and community solidarity. Targets of CBR in the framework of the DART project are in particular the collection and analysis of socio-demographic data of the region for subsequent application in resolving the demographic situation. Our intention is to learn from already tested best practices on similar issues occurring in other European regions and to establish co-operation with involved regions for the development of a conceptual approach in the field. It is a particular goal of Central Bohemia to support old people in remaining self-sufficient and being able to stay in their homes as long as possible. The Regional Authority of Central Bohemia is organised at two levels: self-government and delegated powers of the state administrative authorities. The RA, therefore, performs tasks delegated to it by the assembly, the council and the governor, as well as duties defined by government legislation. The Regional Authority is also active in crisis management, planning and building proceedings, population records, the environment, agriculture, transport, culture and heritage preservation, social affairs, health care and education. The Authority is obliged to ensure accessibility of social services towards all citizens of the Central Bohemia Region.
